Here we go again!

Many quilted projects, UFO's, and months later...   Back to creating.  I'm working on a quilt project that introduces several techniques and results in a large sampler lap quilt.

The plan is to do this as a BOM over 10 months.  Starting January, we'll finish October(ish), just before the wonderful crazy time of the year.  We'll do this as somewhat of a "mystery" since I'm still working on the technique blocks.  Each of the empty blocks shown in the picture below will be filled with a pattern as we go.  Hope you enjoy!

BOM - Techniques Sampler

A quilt-as-you-go experience for beginner to intermediate quilters.

Great for a group project.

Fabrics and Prep

   Quilt Top

12 Fat Quarters (FQ)
1 yard Background (or use additional FQ's)
1/2 yard 1st Border (2")
1 1/3 yards 2nd Border (6")

For the 2" first border cut fabric:
    2 ea. 2 1/2 X 62
    2 ea. 2 1/2 X 78

For the 6" 2nd border cut fabric:
    2 ea. 6 1/2 X 62
    2 ea. 6 1/2 X 78
    
FQ's will be cut as the blocks are made.  

   Quilt Backing and Batting

3 2/3 yards for Block Backs, 2 1/3 yards for Borders

Calculate Batting depending on size purchased.

   **Since this is a "quilt-as-you-go" project, cut your backing and batting as listed below.

For the Blocks cut:
   25 ea. 14" squares of backing and batting.  Pin a batting square to the wrong side of each backing square

For the Borders cut:
    2 ea. 10" X 62"
    2 ea. 10" X 78"
        Cut both Backing and Batting to this size.

For the 2" first border cut fabric:
    2 ea. 2 1/2 X 62
    2 ea. 2 1/2 X 78

For the 6" 2nd border cut fabric:
    2 ea. 6 1/2 X 62
    2 ea. 6 1/2 X 78
    
FQ's will be cut as the blocks are made.  

I like scrappy quilts. There was a Fat Quarter Bundle of 15 coordinating Christmas fabrics in my stash that's been there a while (years), so it's time to CUT!  I decided to take the 3 lightest FQ's to use as the "Background" fabric and add a fourth if necessary.  Also, I know there is a little extra fabric in the backing yardage measurement for blocks, so I can also use that in the construction of blocks if needed.  

All that said, feel free to dig into your scraps and go COMPLETELY scrappy.
